2025.11.18 - Alberta invokes notwithstanding clause to stop court challenges of transgender laws
In 2024, Alberta passed three laws which would prohibit medical transitions for minors, require parental notification if a child wants to change their name or pronoun at school, and ensure that biological men cannot play in women’s sports. In response to legal challenges, the government has chosen to use the notwithstanding clause to protect all three laws and ensure they come into effect.
