RCAAN January 2026 Update

Greetings RCAAN!

Happy New Year!  I trust that you have had an amazing Christmas season and brought in the New Year with much thanksgiving for what has transpired in 2025, and with much anticipation and excitement for what is coming in 2026.

As always, there are many things happening at the various levels of civic government.  Here are some items of which we want you to be aware and to act upon as is appropriate for you:

Bill C-218 – Stop The Expansion of MAiD for Mental Illness

MP Tamara Jansen sent the following communication to her followers:

Thank you so much for your encouragement, and advocacy leading up to the first hour of debate on my Private Member’s Bill, C-218, to stop the expansion of MAiD for mental illness. It was an important moment as we continue to make the case for protecting vulnerable Canadians.

If you were not able to watch the debate live, you can view the speeches online:

We expect the second hour of debate and the first vote on Bill C-218 to take place in late March. This will be a critical moment that determines whether the Bill continues forward in the legislative process. We will need a majority of MPs to vote in favour of the Bill or else it will be defeated.

Between now and then, I would be deeply grateful for your continued support in three key ways ...

  • Contact your Local Representative– Kindly reach out to your local MP and respectfully urge them to vote in favour of Bill C-218 at second reading. Click here to find out who your local MP is.

  • Share the speeches – Please share the videos above so that we can continue to increase awareness on social media.

  • Encourage others to speak up – Invite your networks, whether it is your local faith or cultural community or your family and friends, to also contact their local MPs and publicly express support for Bill C-218.

Your ongoing efforts are essential in showing Parliament that Canadians want to protect those who are suffering and ensure that our laws reflect genuine care for the most vulnerable.

Thank you again for standing with me and for continuing to advocate for this Bill. I will continue to keep you updated.

With sincere gratitude,

M.P. Tamara Jansen

Member of Parliament
Cloverdale—Langley City

Action:

  • Familiarize yourself with this issue

  • Complete the actions recommended by MP Jansen in the letter above

Truth and Reconciliation:

There continues to be a strong push from all levels of government to implement the recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Report.  However, there is also an increasing amount of evidence being brought forward that question the accuracy of the findings that resulted in these recommendations.  Here are two resources that highlight many of these questions:

                A documentary : https://makingakilling.ca/

The book produced by the Frontier Centre: From Truth Comes Reconciliation

Action:

  • Use these resources to familiarize yourself with both sides of this issue

  • Share these resources with those who may be open to consider another perspective

What are your children / grandchildren watching?

The indoctrination of our children and grandchildren is subtle but very pervasive.  This article is one example:

                Action:

  • Be aware of the many ways values and principles that are opposed to those we hold are being promoted in media

Religious Persecution: Coming soon or already here?

A Christian Religious Freedom Summit is being held in Ottawa on February 7, 2026.  Information can be found on the website Freedom Summit 2026 | February 07, 2026

Here is some information that comes directly from the organizer’s website:

When we think of religious persecution, we often think of far-off countries where Christians aren’t allowed to practice their faith. They can’t gather in worship, pray publicly or share their faith.

Sadly, many Canadians are starting to see the beginning of persecution here. Governments have restricted worship, arrested peaceful Christian protestors and silenced Christian staff who object to practices like MAID. The provincial government of Quebec has even announced a plan to ban public prayer.

Some Christians say we aren’t being persecuted. We can’t even compare what is happening to Christians here to believers around the world. But others point out that persecution rarely starts with the worst kind of government control. It starts with the slow erosion of our rights, just like what we’re experiencing in Canada.

At this year’s Religious Freedom Summit, we’ll hear from key Christian leaders who will share their experience in Canadian politics. They’ll discuss the kind of persecution they’ve faced and how they see that persecution growing. They’ll also show us what Christians can do to protect those freedoms.
Join us at Summit 2026 where we’ll be launching a new strategy to protect religious freedom for all Canadians.

RCAAN is working with a local church to host a watch party.  The Freedom Summit will be livestreamed from Noon until 5:00 PM local time.  Details about the venue will be sent to you as soon as possible

Action:

Are you right or left?

Often, in conversation about political issues, the words “right” and “left” but there often is not a clear understanding of what is meant by these descriptors.  Dennis Prager offers his thoughts on the differences between “right” and “left” (see video links below) and does so without referring to any political party.
