RCAAN Oct 2026 Update

Greetings RCAAN Members and Followers,

As we approach Thanksgiving weekend, I am taking time to reflect on the many things for which I am thankful.  Among the many things that have come to mind; I am grateful to be part of a network of women and men who have chosen to give energy and resources to “stand in the gap” between the many times various government actions have crossed over into the legitimate circles of authority that our country’s founding documents have guaranteed to individuals and families.  I am pleased that RCAAN continues to exist to raise awareness of some of these issues and to call people to appropriate action.  Thank you for being part of our network.

This edition of the Update contains several important dates of events we are either hosting, partnering, or participating in.  Please put these in your calendar and do your best to take part.  Also, I have provided some information on current issues of which we should be aware.

EDUCATION IS DISCIPLESHIP

RCAAN has partnered with the Canadian Christian Education Movement (CCEM) to host a one-day seminar Education is Discipleship Saturday, Nov. 21.  It’s time to evaluate our K-12 education, because as C.S Lewis said, "Every inch of this world is a war between good and evil. How could we think that education is neutral?"

Speakers include: Stockwell Day, President Mark Maxwell, David Hunt, and Judi Vankevich along with other local heroes outlining specific strategies and reasons for all of us to re-engage in K-12 education.  The target audience is parents (child care is provided), grandparents, pastors and leaders.

Register here.  https://www.cemovement.ca/nov-21-educationisdiscipleship-regina

RCAAN GALA:

Our 2027 GALA will be held on Thursday, April 29, 2027.  Please put this date in your calendar.  More details to follow.

RCAAN HAS HIRED A DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS

For some time now, the leadership team of RCAAN has recognized that we have grown to the point where we are limited by the amount we can do with only volunteer help.  We believe that to continue our growth, we had to hire staff.

Bryann Olenick has accepted our offer to become RCAAN’s Director of Operations (part time).  She will be focussing her time on our social media outreach but will be involved in most aspects of our network.  We are very excited to have Bryann as our first staff member.

BOARD IN MOTION

DOES THE GOVERNMENT HIRE FOR COMPETENCE?

The Aristotle Foundation reviewed 301 federal job postings across 59 departments and agencies between February and July 2026, and found:

DEI language was virtually ubiquitous, appearing in 95 per cent of job postings. More significantly, 42 per cent of postings explicitly or potentially prioritized applicants based on race, ethnicity, or other group-identity characteristics. Four per cent of postings restricted eligibility to certain groups.

These practices continue despite the expressed preferences of most Canadians who, in polling, support inclusion in principle but reject identity-based hiring.

Although Canada’s Employment Act prohibits hiring quotas, these federal employment-equity initiatives operate like a quota system.

Empirical evidence challenges the rationale and need for such preferential DEI job postings. Treasury Board data show most designated groups already meet or exceed workforce availability benchmarks, including at the executive level.

For those who care about Canada’s public services—their effectiveness and operational fairness—and the preservation of a meritocratic society, this new survey is an essential read. The full report—Does the Government Hire for Competence? A survey of DEI hiring practices in the Canadian government—is now available at aristotlefoundation.org

PLURALISM NEEDS A MORAL FRAMEWORK

“Canada's pluralism emerged because generations of Canadians inherited and cultivated a moral framework. The institutions that taught responsibility, the communities that formed character, and the traditions that gave meaning to concepts such as dignity, equality, and justice were not obstacles to pluralism. They were the preconditions for it.”  Read Ray Pennings, of Cardus, as he clarifies the necessity of a moral framework to ensure Canadian plurality will thrive.

A Reminder to the PM: Pluralism Needs a Moral Framework

RCAAN EXISTS ONLY BECAUSE OF GENEROUS DONORS

Over the years RCAAN has existed, we have been able to provide the services, support and activities you have enjoyed because people have joined as members as well as given generous donations.  As you can see from the above, we are entering into a very active season that will require significant financial resources.  In addition, we have hired staff.  Therefore, we are asking you to consider:

Thank you for your attention to all these matters.  Please contact us at rcaan.sk@gmail.com for any questions or concerns.
