RCAAN December Update
Greetings RCAAN,
Where did November go? Maybe it’s because we were away on vacation for 2-weeks. Maybe it’s because there is so much happening locally, provincially, and federally that I can hardly keep up. Maybe it’s because I’m 74!! However, it is important to produce these regular updates to ensure you are aware of issues and activities that are affecting our community and society as well as to call you to appropriate action as it is deemed necessary. That is the main purpose of RCAAN. Thank you for being part of our network.
COMMON SENSE REGINA - Petition
Regina residents are facing a massive property tax increase. The City’s draft 2026 budget includes a 15.69% mill rate hike - one of the largest in the City’s history.
Common Sense Regina is providing an easy way to make your voice heard. The city will be debating this budget in December. Please let your concerns be known.

Liberals Make Deal With The Bloc to Remove Religious Exemption on Hate Speech Law (C-9)
4 My Canada has some very good information and action points (below) on this issue:
The National Post broke the news (earlier today) that the Liberals and the Bloc are planning to band together to remove Canada’s current religious exemption in hate-speech law.
This shift has serious implications for freedom of faith and expression in our nation.
Watch this video to find out more.
This change would mean that Canadians who express a "sincerely held belief" based on their faith, could be prosecuted for hate crimes. MP Mark Miller recently stated that certain texts of the Bible could be included in this.
If you are concerned about protecting freedom of religion in Canada, now is the time to act.

Alberta invokes notwithstanding clause to stop court challenges of transgender laws Canadian Press
In 2024, Alberta passed three laws which would prohibit medical transitions for minors, require parental notification if a child wants to change their name or pronoun at school, and ensure that biological men cannot play in women’s sports. In response to legal challenges, the government has chosen to use the notwithstanding clause to protect all three laws and ensure they come into effect.
New Zealand halts new puberty blockers for young transgender people Reuters
Amid growing global concern around medical transitions for minors, and due to a lack of evidence demonstrating the benefits of such drugs, New Zealand recently announced that they would no longer prescribe puberty blockers for children with gender dysphoria.
Global backlash against the LGBT movement is an attempt to return to normal The Bridgehead
Despite mainstream reporting of opposition to the LGBTQ revolution as discriminatory, far-right, or radical, various jurisdictions globally are pushing back against that revolution. This spans from banning medical transitions for minors to affirming marriage as between a man and a woman.
