RCAAN March 2026 Update
Greetings RCAAN,
It’s time for another RCAAN update. Thank you for taking time to go through these items to increase your awareness and discern the appropriate action for you. Things are moving so quickly in our city, province and country that it is difficult to prioritize items to include wanting to be concise yet complete. Thank you, too, for those who are alerting us to issues and events that are of interest. We go through them all and decide which to post on social media, which to include in these articles, and which to feature at our regular meetings.
Our Next Regular Meeting:
The next RCAAN meeting will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at 7:00 PM in the Small Theater at the Saskatchewan Science Centre, 2903 Powerhouse Drive. Enter through the main entrance and the receptionist will direct you to the theater. We have invited Greg Needham, the National Director of the Canadian Christian Education Movement (CCEM) to address us about the shifting cultural landscape we are facing and the many challenges this poses to parents and grandparents. His focus will be on the importance of quality education and some possible alternatives for parents to consider.
Action:
Attend this meeting.
Invite other parents and grandparents to come with you.
Freedom of Speech – Really?
You may have heard of the school trustee in British Columbia that was fined $75,000.00 for stating that there are only two genders. This link is an interview with the trustee where he details his experience: Man FINED $750K for Saying There are 2 Genders SPEAKS OUT | Barry Neufeld

Bill C-9 Update:
Here is a quick update (as of Thursday March 12th) on where parliament is at with this legislation…
Tuesday March 10:
By a vote of 186 Yeas to 144 Nays, the motion to truncate the Justice Committee’s study of Bill C-9 was passed. Liberals & Bloc MPs voted unanimously in support.
Wednesday March 11:
The Justice Committee met for 35 minutes and members were forced to vote on all the amendments without debate. Again, Liberal and Bloc MPs formed a majority on committee to pass all the articles in the bill, including deleting the “religious text defence” from the Criminal Code.
Conservative MPs on the committee succeeded in securing one significant victory that makes the bill slightly less dangerous. They got Liberals to agree to an amendment to modify the definition of “hate speech” so that it’s not ambiguous as the current government wanted it. The “new” definition aligns with what the Supreme Court laid down, requiring that both “detestation” and “vilification” must be present. The Libs originally wanted only one or the other to be present in order to justify criminal proceedings.
Thursday March 12:
Rally on Parliament Hill lawn to oppose Bill C-9, organized by ARPA as seen below:
Friday March 13:
A final third reading and vote on Bill C-9 is expected Friday in the House of Commons. If it passes, it will advance to the Senate and our lobbying efforts will have to move to Senators.
Action:
If the Bill passes the third reading, contact your Senator to express your opinion on this legislation.
What's New at the Federation?
“What's New at the Federation” is a regular publication that is sent by the Saskatchewan Teachers Federation to all teachers in the province. The “help wanted” article below was circulated in a recent issue of this bulletin:
Redefining Masculinities: Male ‑ Identifying Teachers Wanted
Schools play a key role in shaping how young people understand gender, yet teachers are increasingly confronting online influences that promote sexist, misogynistic, homophobic and transphobic views. A federally funded Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council study is seeking K-12 teachers across Canada who identify as men – including trans and cis men – to share how they challenge restrictive masculine norms and support boys in thinking critically about gender. The research will help identify effective practices and the barriers teachers face.
Action:
Engage in conversation with teachers in your circle of influence to see where they stand on issues like this, and find out how you could support the ones who have value parallel to yours.
Public Bill (Senate) S-228 (45-1) - An Act to amend the Criminal Code (sterilization procedures) - Parliament of Canada:
https://www.parl.ca/DocumentViewer/en/45-1/bill/S-228/third-reading
A RCAAN member sent me this notice that Bill S-228 is going to third reading. She added three questions that we should all consider about this bill:
Why are we going to make a law about sterilization and not abortion?
Any medical procedure performed without consent is considered assault. Why something specific for sterilization?
Why is no one worried about the injury to the unborn?
Action:
Send these questions to your MP and your Senator
