Hello.
You may, or may not, have noticed that Wayne’s Word has been missing for a while. I apologize if you have been wondering about the absence. I have no excuses, only an explanation. I have been busy with a lot of things that were important to me during this time. There are a number of topics I want to address in this blog, and so will do this in the same way I have done similar ones in the past. This will be a multi themed edition of the blog.
Immigration
Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau officially established immigration as a policy in October of 1977. Multiculturalism was added to the Charter of Rights and Freedoms in 1982 under Section 27, and then passed into law by the Conservatives under Brian Mulroney in 1985. Little did they realize the door this would open. Let me begin by saying that immigration is necessary and good for Canada. We are a nation of immigrants after all. This is premised though on the condition that immigrants need to hold, or accept, the foundational cultural values that Canada was built on. What are these? They are Judeo Christian values, which are manifest in our form of government and in The Charter of
Rights and Freedoms. Of all the forms of government, only democracy encompasses governance while protecting the rights and freedoms set out in The Charter. If you want an in depth analysis of this, please look up the speech Brian Peckford gave at the Calgary Conference in May of this year. (Conference for Dominion of Canada, May 15 and 16, 2026). The Conference was set up by a lawyer friend of mine in Alberta, Roger Song. Mr. Peckford asked those gathered “What happened to God?”, the reason being that democracy only works properly in a Judeo Christian cultural setting.
Muslim Call To Prayer
The matter of the Muslim call to Prayer in Regina, and in some other cities is delicate, and complex. Some of the issues with the “Call” include things like i) Is this a “Call” or is it an actual prayer. ii) Does amplification of a Call in a small area of Regina really do any good in reaching Muslims in Regina, or is there a bigger agenda? iii) If the Call is opposed as being worship or celebration, how might this impact on Christian events like Praise in the Park or similar events,
if the Call is shut down? There are other issues but let me mention just a few things. Initially, as I review the translation of the wording, it is both a call and worship. Also, I believe there is a bigger purpose beyond this just being a local call. Part of Islam strategy, if I can call it that, is for Islam to exert and project dominance over surrounding areas. This has included building mosques on highest points of land to ensure that they are the highest buildings. In many Muslim countries, this type of projected dominance is the law. I suspect that this is part of what is going on here. Next steps will include other mosques doing the same thing, and then maybe expansion of the number of times in a week when these calls take place. A few years back while in Calgary, we would hear the Call daily for a time.
With respect to Christian events in public spaces, like Praise in the Park, amplification of worship might well fall under a bylaw prohibiting public amplification. Is there a solution? Perhaps. Here are a couple of thoughts. First off, this is not a Charter issue since government is not involved in the Call. Having said this, the Supreme Court has found that Freedom of religion can apply in regular situations like this. Also, freedom of religion includes the right not to believe.
In the current situation, then, this is a Regina City Council issue. Council could prohibit the Call on a regular basis on the grounds that it infringes on the people in surrounding buildings and streets from exercising their right not to believe.
Is this any different than the exercise of Praise in the park? Not really. What could perhaps be done is to allow events like the Call or Praise in the Park to exercise amplification once a year. Just a thought. I want to say just a few things on the expansion of Islam, but do intend to do a full blog on this at some point.
I will start with the observation that Islam is the second largest worldwide religion. There are many reasons for this, but the primary reason is that it is imposed by force, starting with Mohammed, and it is not a choice in most cases including that you can be born Muslim and you are not allowed to renounce it. Now many people will say that many Muslims are very nice and good people and I agree. I have close friends who are Muslim and are fine people. However, it
only takes a small percentage of Muslims who desire to use force to bring about domination to create significant problems. For example, think of Iran with nuclear bombs. Iran is an Islamist country. I listened to a podcast last week which pointed out that something in the area of 95% of worldwide terrorist attacks were by Islamists.
In countries like England, France, Belgium, Germany, Sweden, and others, Islam is taking root with Muslim enclaves being set up and Sharia law being used and enforced. My wife and I walked through such an enclave in Paris a year ago by accident. I can only describe this experience as unsettling, even frightening. We need to be conscious of the Islamist goal to dominate. I can cite a local example. Student Council at the University of Regina elected a large majority of Muslims to run the Council. This Council has since been shut down because of alleged mismanagement, but how did it happen in the first place?
Finally, I want to add the views of a more independent non-religious person. Christopher Hitchens, who was an avowed atheist, was a strong warning voice on the dangers emanating from the Muslim radical community. He spoke on the topic and he wrote a book about it. Hitchens said that Islamists want to destroy Western civilization, both in Europe and North America. Many feel that the current widespread protests in Europe today contain an element
at least, if not a major push, from Islamist radicals who are being organized and paid by some Muslim countries. I remind you to read a book on this by Warren Kinsella called “The Hidden Hand”.
The Church in Politics
This is a topic I want to do a full blog on as well, but want to say a bit about it now. We have this dominant view today that the Church should stay out of politics. Some of this comes from the idea of “the separation of church and state.” Please be aware that this doctrine means that the state is to stay out of the Church’s affairs, and nothing more than this. Increasingly today, more people are coming to the view that Christians do need to be involved in politics. A prime
reason for this is that the state has stepped outside its lane of governing and justice and into the social justice lanes, and the family lane, and the business lane, and the education lane, and, and, and. People of faith need to get involved in politics to help deal with these issues, but more importantly, steer governments back into their lane.
Books I have Read This Summer
I have been doing quite a bit of reading this summer. The following are some books that I really encourage you to look at.
By the way, here are a few tips about reading longer books quicker:
*Read the introduction and conclusion in the book and the opening and closing paragraphs of each chapter. You drill deeper into chapters that catch your interest. Get into audio books, which is where my kids and grandkids are going with some books. These are available from subscription sites or free through the library.
Read an AI summary of a book. You can also ask for summaries of varying lengths. Also, look into the app, Blinkist, that Elon Musk uses for 5 hours every week, which summarizes many books into 15 minute segments.
Now the books:
1). “Christ or Collapse, The Case Against Godless Government” by David Haskell. This is a very well researched and in depth analysis of why Christian belief must be foundational to government and countries operating under a democratic government. One example of the value of the book to today’s political discussion is the author’s description of “Core Tenets of Traditional Conservatism”, which are a must for the successful operation of governments in Canada. These consist of:
a) unwavering dependence on moral absolutes of Christianity for civil direction.
b) reluctance to abandon established customs and traditions. These have developed for reasons and longevity signifies usefulness.
c) obligation to ancestors and descendants. Society is a partnership between those living and those deceased or yet to be born.
d) acceptance of social hierarchies. Hierarchical and social order where roles are clearly defined and distributed according to natural competencies are acceptable. Note that this does not exclude or override equality before the law and natural rights.
e) promotion of nationalism which is self-describing in the wording.
f) support for family. Family holds paramount importance, a central pillar of support and emphasis. Families are the most basic social institution and serve as the primary training ground for positive civic engagement.
g) limited government. Traditional Conservatism seeks to minimize the size and role of government. Greater government breeds greater corruption, and a more active government produces less active citizenry.
h) Support for personal freedom. This does not mean unfettered freedom. Rather it means “ordered liberty” where freedoms are balanced against the need for societal stability.
i) Free markets. This involves less government involvement, but does not restrict government from regulating in order to prevent harm or injustice.
2). “The Peril of Woke Schools and the Value of Traditional Education” by a number of authors such as Conrad Black, Brian Giesbrecht (retired judge and researcher with The Frontier Public Policy Centre), our very own Lee Harding, who is always worth reading, Barbara Kay (I always love her stuff), David Leis (watch him on the Miracle Channel), William Brooks, and Rodney Clifton.
Some topics
a)The Marxists are Winning the Education War - Homeschooling should Be a Viable Option
b)The Massive Failure of No Fail
c)Why Parents are turning to Christian Schools
d)National Suicide By Education
This is a must read!
3). “The Parasitic Mind, How Infectious Ideas Are Killing Common Sense” by Gad Saad. Saad, who is a Canadian but is moving to the USA, has some excellent examples of common sense today in steep decline. His thinking on evolution, both physical and psychological, is a bit off, but I skipped over this deviation from his excellent analysis.
Some Closing Thoughts
RCAAN is taking some major steps this year. We are focusing on getting our awareness messaging out to more people, more quickly. We have employed someone to work part time on this and other things. We want to expand our connections by joining local clubs or organizations and recruiting members. Please help with this by getting your friends and family involved in RCAAN. Also, please think about making a donation to RCAAN to help with the costs.
Our next meeting is on October 28th . Please try to attend and bring a friend. Our speaker will be Lee Harding, and he will be speaking on Residential Schools. The meeting will be held at the Wa Wa Shrine building, 2065 Hamilton Street.
Finally, if Christian education is important to you, keep November 21 st open for a conference we are sponsoring. If you have children or grandchildren in school you, and/or your grandchildren’s parents need to attend this!
A couple of thoughts –
“Show me your friends and I’ll show you your future”.
“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go with friends”
This blog expresses the opinion of the writer and not necessarily that of RCAAN.
